Susan Dutch

Director of Community Outreach & Engagement

Susan began at Syracuse University in 2004 as the Director of Marketing & Communications for the Division of Student Support & Retention, where she implemented optimum strategies for the development and review of 14 program-specific marketing and communication plans under the Division of Student Support and Retention brand.Her work with SS&R targeted under-represented student populations, and/or involved partnerships with the Syracuse City School District, various colleges and universities and corporate partners, preparing her well for the next 5 years that she would serve as the Marketing and Communications Director for SayYes to Education in Syracuse. 

In her current role as Director of Community Outreach & Engagement, she taps into her communication and networking skills to cultivate and nurture relationships with individuals, businesses and organizations in Syracuse, striving to engage an entire community in the mission of Say Yes. She utilizes her extensive marketing expertise to develop and execute strategic multi-media outreach campaigns to recruit a corps of volunteers and mentors to enrich the lives and educational experiences of Syracuse City School District students. Susan also manages special events, serves as liaison for Say Yes Scholars, and is a spokesperson upon request for Say Yes throughout the Syracuse community.

Prior to her position at SU, she was the marketing director for the Everson Museum of Art and the PR director for OCC. As a former magazine editor and ongoing freelance writer and blogger, Susan has written hundreds of articles and columns for various local and regional publications and websites on topics including health and wellness, family finance, parenting and education. Susan holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of Kansas.
