Family Services

Say Yes to Education in partnership with Syracuse partners initiated family support services to help limit barriers to academic success. These services continue to support students and families and positively affect academic outcomes for student success.

Say Yes to Education in partnership with the Syracuse City School District, the City of Syracuse, Onondaga County, the Volunteer Lawyer Project and the Onondaga County Bar Association initiated several family support service programs in efforts to limit barriers to academic success. There efforts include:

  • Family Support Specialists in all schools that provide the following:
    • Help improve children’s behavior, attendance, and grades at school
    • Help resolve children’s behavior issues at home
    • Access community resources and navigating community systems
    • Advocate and assist with developing effective working relationships with school staff
    • Work to address other family issues that may be impacting, or have the potential to impact, school success
  • Free Legal Clinics
    • Legal Clinics staffed by Syracuse attorneys and paralegals during the academic school year to assist families with children in the Syracuse School District with legal issues that may interfere with their child’s ability to succeed in school. Any parent or student in the SCSD can attend a walk-in clinic at any available location, regardless of which school the child attends. The legal clinics, which are open during the school year, are apart of the Volunteer Lawyer Project and the Onondaga County Bar Association. To learn more about the Volunteer Lawyer Project go to http://www.onvlp.org/
  • Mental Health Clinics
    • As part of the Promise Zone commitment, the Onondaga County Department of Mental Health, SCSD, Say Yes, and the community-based organizations now have mental health clinic in every school in the district. For details visit www.syracusepromisezone.org.
