We know that teachers from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds have an essential impact on their students and schools.
The Baldanza Fellowship program is dedicated to recruiting, developing and retaining underrepresented teachers into Syracuse area K-12 schools.
Fellows receive:
- Scholarships to cover or go towards your master’s degree
- Stipend to support living expenses
- A hiring commitment from a partner school districts (more details here)

Eligible Master’s Degree Programs
Applicants for any of our initial teacher certification master’s programs are eligible to be considered for the Baldanza Fellowship:
• M.S. Arts Education (PreK-Grade 12)
• M.S. Childhood (Elementary) Education (Grades 1-6)
• M.S. Early Childhood Special Education (Birth-Grade 2)
• M.S. English Education (Grades 7-12)
• M.S. Inclusive Special Education (Grades 1-6)
• M.S. Inclusive Special Education (Grades 7-12)
• M.S. Mathematics Education (Grades 7-12)
• M.S. Music Education (PreK-Grade 12)
• M.S. Science Education (Grades 7-12)
• M.S. Social Studies Education (Grades 7-12)
Baldanza Fellows must enroll for full-time study and be able to meet all degree requirements within 15 months. Fellows also must agree to a two/three-year minimum teaching commitment in one of the partner school district upon completion of the program.
Core Components
• 16-month full-time master’s teacher education program (May – August the following year)
• Context-specific coursework
• Continuous feedback and support from School of Education faculty and partner district educators
• Year-long seminar and community development for Baldanza Fellow cohort
• Local and national engagement and mentoring
• Extensive field experiences and student teaching within partner school districts
