Become a Mentor
Say Yes Syracuse works with community based organizations to match students with local professionals to help guide them along their path to academic achievement. Mentors serve as a resource for students by sharing knowledge and life experiences, career decisions and successes both past and present.
Mentors are asked to:

- Help scholars set goals and encourage achievement of those goals
- Build a relationship with their mentee by planning and participating in activities
- Provide advice, guidance, and support as needed
- Serve as a positive role model
Qualities that we look for in our mentors include:
- Good listening skills
- Demonstrate patience and flexibility
- Exhibit a strong commitment to the mentoring initiative (e.g., be dependable and consistently meet time commitments)
- Be open to cultural differences
- Display the ability to be encouraging and supportive
- Adhere to all program policies and procedures
- Be open to feedback
