Corcoran High School 2009 alumna Yeisha Núñez-Denson is among the first students to utilize Say Yes Syracuse after it was established in 2008.
In high school, Yeisha was involved in volleyball, lacrosse, and track and field. In addition, she was a part of the student government and president of the Latino Club.
Yeisha first learned about Say Yes Syracuse at informational meetings for students and parents at Corcoran. “Say Yes to Education helped me a great deal financially,” she said. “The program helped my family and myself worry a little less about how I was going to afford higher education.”
After high school, Yeisha attended Le Moyne College, majoring in accounting with a minor in philosophy. She was briefly a club member on campus P.O.W.E.R. (Pride in Our Work, Ethnicity, and Culture). In addition, Yeisha studied abroad in the summer of 2013 at Esade Business School in Barcelona, Spain.
While in college, she interned at the accounting department at the Onondaga Historical Association (OHA) for a semester. She also worked at the Career Advising and Development Office, as a teller at M&T Bank and ACMG Federal Credit Union and Rite Aid Pharmacy as a certified pharmacy technician.
Yeisha’s first accounting job after graduating college in 2015 was at Datacom Systems Inc. as an accounting coordinator. She then worked her way up through various accounting positions at Dairy Farmers of America. Now, Yeisha works as an Accountant at Central New York Community Foundation.
Additionally, she has a small business called, “YeiMarie Creations.” She notes she can customize anything from tumblers, cups, t-shirts, cake toppers, stickers, shadow boxes, and more: “Pretty much, almost anything you need to be customized; I can do it,” said Yeisha.
Yeisha aspires to continue to learn and grow professionally by returning to college for her master’s in business administration.
“Take advantage of all these opportunities presented to you,” Yeisha reflects. “You never know what doors these opportunities will open for you in the long run, and never sell yourself short.”
