Say Yes Student Spotlight: Trevor Giardine

Meet Trevor Giardine, a student at Northeastern University and Say Yes Syracuse scholar

Where did you go to high school, and when did you graduate?

Nottingham High School, Class of 2019

What college are you going to & what is your major(s)/minor(s)?

Northeastern University in Boston, studying Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Management.

What do you like most about college?

Meeting students from all over the world, networking with employers, and connecting with faculty were all amazing experiences. This helped broaden my perspective and grow as an individual, and better defined what I wanted to do with my degree post-graduation.

What are your goals after college (career, future plans, etc.)?

I recently accepted a Product Design Engineer role in Boston, and I hope to stay in the city for a few more years and continue to grow as an engineer. I may pursue an MBA sometime in the future, but I want to get some experience under my belt first.

How did you learn about Say Yes to Education Syracuse?

My older sister! As she went through the college application process in 2015-16, Say Yes to Education was repeatedly brought up by my parents to help better identify schools that we could afford. Understanding how it could help support our college aspirations became crucial when applying to colleges.

What does Say Yes mean to you?

Everything. My entire college experience can be attributed to Say Yes and the support they provided. Say Yes significantly reduced my educational costs, making college and the opportunities that came with it more accessible. Working with Say Yes ensured that I did not have to worry about the next tuition payment, and I cannot thank Say Yes enough for their generous support these past four years.

What advice would you give high school students who are considering seeking a college degree through Say Yes?

Do not hesitate to reach out to Say Yes and your school counselor! The Say Yes website provides a list of all the partner schools and the types of scholarships available to you. The college application process can be difficult to navigate, but there are a lot of great resources out there to help understand what needs submitted and when. While higher education has a scary sticker price, Say Yes is a great resource to significantly reduce costs and make attending higher education affordable.

Anything else you want to add?

I would like to give a special thanks to Ahmeed Turner, who has helped me throughout all of college. Without his help I would not be where I am today, and for that I extend my deepest gratitude.
